CPOE for Laboratory Orders Workflows

In Prime Suite, you can enter laboratory orders using the Note feature. See the following sections for step-by-step instructions on entering laboratory orders:

Your practice can create Order Sets to add an order for multiple tests at one time.

Placing a Quick Order

1. In the Plan section of a Note, type the CPT code or description in the order filter. As you type, matching lab tests are displayed in a list.
2. Select the desired test to place the order.

Adding an Order or OrderSet

1. Select Add Order (for an individual lab test) or Add OrderSet (for multiple lab tests at one time) in the Plan or Results section of the Note.
2. Search for an item using the Name Search tab or, if adding an individual order, select from items saved as a favorite using the Favorites tab.

You can also add a new vocabulary term by selecting Add New under Search Options on the left side of the page and completing the information in the Order Definition dialog box. The new term must map to a valid CPT code in the 80000 to 89999 range to qualify for this measure.

3. Follow the prompts to finish the order.

If ordering from the Results section of a Note, you can also select the In-Office tab to add an order from a list of items defined as in-office orders.
